Thrifty Furniture Finds Revamped

Baby Croissant will be here in T-minus 22 days! I just love being on a daily count down now! Because this is baby number two we've been pretty relaxed about preparations. However, with less than a month to go I'm starting to antsy about the baby's room! Nesting is kicking in big time and the last few weekends have been spent painting furniture and a new light fixture, and pulling upholstery staples out of a chair I plan to have reupholstered for Logan's room. We will be using the glider/rocker from Logan's current room for the new baby, so she will be in need of a new chair.

This got me thinking that now might be a good time to share some of the great furniture makeovers that went into the making of Logan's room, starting with the glider I just referenced. Here is the only before shot I snapped well over a year ago. My mother and I happened upon this Ethan Allen glider at a resale shop in Florida. It was obviously well worn, but oh so comfy, just the right size, and the price was perfect! $40!!!

Because we chose not to find out our first child's gender I knew I wanted to have the chair reupholstered in something gender neutral. This black and white stripe fabric was perfect, and at the discount fabric store for only $6 a yard it was another great score! Finally, I had a wonderfully inexpensive upholstery lady in Florida who did the work for $250. So the total cost came to just under $350. Compare that to a new glider from Pottery Barn Kids for upwards of $1000 and I'd say my revamped chair was a pretty good deal!

Another great find that now resides in Logan's room was this dresser. For $120 plus about $40 in paint and supplies it was another great cost savings, and awesome before and after!

The final revamped piece in Logan's room was the best score because it was free! About three years before Logan was even born my parents purchased and completely remodeled a home in Florida. As soon as I saw the dining room chandelier I knew I had to have it!

FYI this is not my mother's furniture!  This is a before picture of the chandelier in all its glory with the original owner's dining set.
I rescued the chandelier before it was trashed as the house was being gutted, and then my mother stored it for me in her garage for almost four years! I was never really sure where I was going to use it until I found myself with a new baby girl and a new house to boot! It was meant to be.

Here it is now, repainted, rewired, and new shades. The crowning glory of one of my favorite rooms in the house!

I am in love with how this room turned out and it wouldn't be the same without these thrifty finds and a little DIY love. Looking forward to sharing the new furniture revamps I've been working on after baby number two arrives. Until then, here are a few more shots of Logan's funky fun nursery!
